General musings on the rareness of interesting customers at Applebees, compassionate debunking, and why I'm rooting for the Packers this year (as if I needed a reason.)
Every Friday and Saturday night, I work at the olde neighborhood bar and grille that is known to travelers far and wide as Applebees (or IHOPllebees, as I like to call it now.) Recently, they've been having me work in the bar (the tables not the tender) on Fridays, which is nice because there are no kids and no old folks. I'm not saying that those people don't have a right to eat, but that the probability of them being annoying is much higher than the 20-30 something people getting off work. Yes, it's kind of weird to have the non drinker pushing the demon liquor upon people, but, um, God will forgive me?
Anyhow, last night was one of the few times that I managed to run into a customer who was a) interesting to talk to, b)attractive and c) remotely in my age range. Yup, I got my flirt on before I knew what was happening, which is the only way me getting my flirt on even works. Anyway, entertaining conversation, and my sources tell me that the fact that she mentions that she's usually at the 5-Spot on Thursday nights is a positive sign. Though, Thursday nights are fencing nights (I will come up with any excuse to stay single.) Then, strangely enough, she tipped me a dollar for talking to her (I was not her server). I wasn't offended, but it was just, well, odd. Like a guy needs any other incentive to talk to an attractive interesting woman.
I've also been watching Penn and Teller's B*llsh*t. Some of it is interesting, some is crazy (their episode about 2nd hand smoking not being bad for you is mystifying,) and in the end, gets a little annoying. They start with being really annoyed with the charlatans, but over time, they start getting really pissed at the 'suckers' also. Which makes me not really believe that they're in it to 'help' people so much as to show how smart they are. Which ends up taking away from the good they are supposedly doing. People don't like it when others appear to be helping them while making them feel stupid. They end up sticking with the stupid things they do even more, because it might turn out that they're not stupid. I think this is why I tend to not like talking about politics in Seattle. You'll never change someone's mind by calling them an idiot.
As for the Packers, like I need a reason to root for them beyond being born in WI...they're young and building up from within. You gotta love it! In the end, root for whatever team you want, but true fans end up sticking with their team year in and year out. Is there any real advantage to being a true fan? Not really, but it makes us feel snide and superior when we judge you band-wagoners.
OK, that was weird. You didn't ask her out? Or at least get her phone number?
